Alma establishes itself in Brazil

Alma is creating a subsidiary in Brazil to distribute its CAD/CAM sheet-metal working software.

After the signature of several distribution agreements in the last years (Japan, Korea, Canada, Poland, India…) and the creation of a subsidiary in China beginning of 2007, Alma’s international development continues: Alma do Brasil, Alma’s Brazilian subsidiary, is currently being created in Porto Alegre.

Alma’s CAD/CAM software, mainly in the 2D field, now targets a mature market. To make the development fixed costs profitable, increasing the sales volume is necessary. The countries in which mechanical industry is important and where economic growth is significant naturally offer the highest development potential to Alma.

In this context, the Brazilian market is particularly interesting: fifth largest population in the world with 190 million inhabitants, tenth worldwide economy generating over half the GDP of the South-American continent with a strong increase in the recent years, Brazil is an essential industrial player. Fifth steelworker and eighth steel producer in the world, the country is well positioned in the aeronautics, automobile and capital goods industries.

Although Brazil is a very large country, its mechanical industry is concentrated in two main regions on the south (Sud and Sudeste), guiding our choice to settle in Porto Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, not very far from Argentina. The subsidiary will be in charge of direct sales and coordination of the retailer network. It will also operate as a technical center for all customers and partners.

Alma already has a solid basis in Brazil thanks to a first experience of indirect representation in the country: the act/cut suite is available in Portuguese, several firms use the software, a distribution agreement has been signed with a plasma cutting-machine manufacturer and above all, a Brazilian technician perfectly trained to Alma’s products is already working on site. These assets together with the quality of Alma’s products (a complete range of software specialized in 2D/3D cutting and sheet-metal work whose performance is superior to that of our competitors in terms of optimization and automation) and the creation of the team should allow quick growth of sales in Brazil.

Emmanuel Jeantet will manage the subsidiary Alma do Brasil. Emmanuel started working for Alma as a support engineer in 1998, and has been our Export Manager for 4 years.

Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has a population of more than 1.4 million inhabitants.
